When CANUSA began operations in 1966,
its mandate was straightforward: Excellence in field joint protection products
for pipes and pipelines. Through
extensive research and development, the wholly owned subsidiary of Shaw Industries Ltd.
has reached its goal time and time again with a wide range of products to meet every need
in pipe joint protection.
From day one of plant applied pipe coatings, field joints
were the weak link in the chain. Great strides were made in the pipe coating area, but
scant attention was given to the corrosion protection of pipe joints.
CANUSA was one of
the companies first to recognize the need, and then devoted its energy and resources to
producing a system of field joint protection that has consistently kept up with the
fast-paced demands of a growing pipeline industry.
With a strong base in plastics
engineering as well as sealants and coatings technology, CANUSA's engineers developed a
heat shrinkable tubular sleeve. The crosslinked polyethylene is lined with a heat
sensitive adhesive. Upon application of heat from a propane torch, the sleeve shrinks to
conform tightly to the joint profile. At the same time, molten adhesive is forced into all
surface irregularities, making the seal complete. This CANUSA product,
CANUSAtube, is in wide use today.
CANUSA engineers also developed a two piece wrap-around
sleeve,
CANUSAwrap that can be installed on new pipelines after welding or for
restoring existing pipelines. This sleeve consists of an irradiation crosslinked
heat-shrinkable backing coated with a sealant. This system allows the use of a wide range
of backings and sealants to suit specific operating temperatures and environmental
conditions.
The most recent addition to the CANUSA family is the
patented
CANUSA Wrapid Sleeve.
This welded system combines the integrity of a seamless tubular sleeve with the
convenience of a wrap-around sleeve.
CANUSA's continued commitment to high technology and
innovation through research and development has made it a leader in its field with its
products in use throughout the world.
Technological innovations and advances using a highly
skilled team of engineers, scientists and technicians is the driving force upon which
CANUSA has built its success. CANUSA's research and product development staff is
complemented by a modern, state-of-the-art research facility. More than that,
CANUSA
listens to its customers solving their problems. Through close interaction between
customers, field engineers and the research and development team, CANUSA finds solutions.
CANUSA's expertise in polymer engineering, crosslinking
chemistry and sealant and pipe coating technology allows us to provide the ultimate in
engineered, user-friendly products.
At CANUSA, quality is built into the product. Quality
control ensures that raw materials, in-process materials and finished products are
subjected to exhaustive testing to comply with strict specifications. Quality assurance
procedures permit traceability of every component throughout the entire manufacturing
process.
