Precision Instruments for
Coatings Quality Assurance

Paint
Inspection Gage, Model IV
A precision tool for inspection and
thickness measurement (ASTM D4138) of single or multiple coats on any
substrate, and for microscopic observation and measurement of substrate
and film defects. Uses illuminated 50-power microscope with measuring
reticle, and mounts tungsten carbide cutting tips for precise incision
of work surface. The body of the model IV instrument is corrosion and
impact-resistant polycarbonate plastic.
The Paint Inspection Gage Model II is
similar in shape and function to the Model IV instrument. It is
custom-machined from a block of solid aluminum.

Microgroover
A portable high-speed rotary grinder with
miniature cutting bits for precisely measurable incisions. Permits the
Paint Inspection Gage to be used on coating systems difficult to incise
with cutting tips. Greatly improves measurability on concrete coatings,
painted drywall, elastomer coatings, and any system of very hard or soft
materials.

Rotogroover
|
The Rotogroover is the latest Micro-Metrics tool for coatings incision
preparatory to thickness measurement. It embodies two special features:
first, the incision is the smallest of those of Micro-Metrics tools, and
second, it works unusually well on plastic and elastomeric
substrate/coating systems - notably automotive bumper and fender
systems. The rotary incision is made by light finger pressure on the
disk chuck holding a conical, countersink type tip.
|
|
The Paint Inspection Gage, together with
the Microgroover and the Rotogroover, provide all of the functions
described in ASTM D-4138-94. A micrograph of Rotogroover incision is
shown to the above right.

Pencil Hardness Gage
Permanently holds all pencil leads in the
configuration required to perform ASTM D3363 Pencil Hardness Test, which
is the simplest and most generally accepted and understood paint film
hardness test.

Thickness Standards
Supplied in thickness ranges of 1-10
mils and 10-60 mils in either non-certified or certified grades.
Packaged in sets of six pieces in a calling card sized plastic folder.
Essential for performance verification of indirect (magnetic or eddy
current) type gages and micrometers, and for precision comparison with
Paint Inspection Gage results.

 |

Wet Film Thickness Gage
A toothed, credit card size gage which
provides immediate feedback on thickness for just-applied coatings.

Parts, Repair &
Calibration Services
A stock of parts is available for
instruments, and can be supplied by Corrosion Control Products
Company.
Quick turnaround repair service is
available for instruments. A routine minimum "clean and
align" charge covers minor repair needs. Optical
calibration of gages with certification of traceability can be
supplied.
Gage thickness measurement calibration
to a "known" standard panel (ours or customer's) is also
available with certification.
