The 8420 series insulators are designed to maximize interference fit (provides tight interface to insure a submersible splice) and have a tough rubber formation that withstands rough backfilling for long term system reliability. This EPDM rubber compound also provides superior electrical and temperature stability.

Insulators are factory assembled onto removable, collapsible cores. No tools, torches, heat, mastic or mixes are required. 3M insulators resist punctures, fractures, moisture, alkalies, ozone and UV rays. Use the 8420 insulators for secondary splices, above ground and direct buried.

8440 Series, Voltage Rating up to 1000V

3M Cold Shrink silicone insulators in the 8440 series are insulating tubes constructed from a specially formulated hi-temp silicone rubber with an operating temperature range from -67^oF to 500^oF (-55^oC to 260^oC).

The silicone tubes are pre-stretched onto a core that, when removed, allows the Cold Shrink tube to instantly shrink around the connection, tightly sealing it. No heat or flame is required, thereby eliminating costly standby fire safety measures for routine electrical maintenance work. The live memory action and silicone rubber ensure a permanent, durable insulation.

The 8440 series kits are available for insulating inline splices or terminal lugs for 1000 V or less.
