Cygnus 3 Datalogging Thickness Gauge
Digital, Ultrasonic Multiple Echo

Ultrasonic hand-held digital thickness data logs up to 200,000 points,
is easy to use, and interfaces to a PC using Windows software.

Overview | Cygnus 1 Heavy Duty | Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe | Cygnus 1 Underwater | Cygnus 2 Hands Free |
Cygnus 3 Data Logger | Cygnus 4 General Purpose | Cygnus Mini ROV | Cygnus Dedicated ROV

Description

The Cygnus 3 Datalogger is versatile and easy to program with simple menu operation. Templates provide solutions to recording various geometries such as tanks, cylinders, pipes and plant:

  • Single Point for linear records
  • Multipoint for N-Readings per point records
  • Grid Point for two-timensional X-Y records
  • Key Point for specifying ranges of readings with alarms for complex structures

Windows Explorer style menu with measurements logged with one simple key press. The unit interfaces with a PC using Cygnus dedicated software which is Windows® compatible. The Cygnus 3 gauge has storage for up to 200,000 measurements.

Benefits

  • Multiple-echo, single-crystal Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge.
  • Coatings do not have to be removed - measures only the metal thickness.
  • Accepted by major classification societies.
  • No grinding - minimum surface preparation.
  • Measures on rough corroded surfaces.
  • Speed, accuracy and reliability.
  • No false readings - repeatable results.
  • Easy to use - minimum operator training.
  • Greatly reduced inspection time and cost.
  • Measures on metals and some other materials.

Applications
  • Metal thickness monitoring on cranes, marine structures and conveying systems.
  • Corrosion checks on ships' shell plates, bulkheads and structures.
  • Metal thickness safety checks on steam and pressurized water systems, transportable gas containers and compressed air systems.
  • Systematic wall thickness and corrosion monitoring of storage tanks, process vessels and road tankers.
  • Quality assurance metal thickness checks.
  • Maintenance and safety checks on bridges and street lighting columns.
  • Pipeline wall thickness monitoring in-situ.

Cygnus Multiple Echo Technology

With multiple echo technology, readings are taken by measuring the time delay between any three consecutive backwall echoes. The time T1 (for coating thickness) is ignored. The times T2 and T3 are equal to the time that it takes for sound to travel through the metal. Only by looking at three echoes can the measurements be made for the metal thickness, where T2 = T3.

Features

Gauge:

  • Can be carried on the waist belt for ease of climbing.
  • Highly water / dirt / dust resistant.
  • Rugged construction - shock proof.
  • Stable calibration - linear accuracy - no zero adjustment.
  • Self-verification of the measurements to ensure accuracy.
  • Choice of probe options.
  • Echo strength displayed to aid measurement.
  • Dual displays: bright LED and graphical LCD displays.
  • Probe protected by a membrane against wear and tear.
  • Metric / Imperial switchable.

Datalogger:

  • Versatile and easy to program, simple operation.
  • Templates allow for Single Point, Grid Point, Key Point or Multi-Point setup.
  • Windows® Explorer style menu system.
  • Measurements logged with one simple key press.
  • PC interfaces.
  • Dedicated Windows® compatible software on CD.
  • Out-of-tolerance alarms.
  • Storage for 200,000 measurements.
