The most widely used cable in cathodic protection is commonly known as "HMW" or "HMWPE", which refers to the cable jacket or insulation. HMWPE is short for High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, which is a durable, abrasion resistant and flexible. This feature allows HMWPE to be "direct buried" and does not normally require installation conduit. However, HMWPE does have some termperature and chemical limitations.
This cable insulation color is usually black (standard). However, other custom colors are available depending the cable size and quantity purchased.
This cable is typically used as a DC cable in cathodic protection applications such as anode lead wires, header cables, structure connection, bond cables, test lead wires and more. It can also be used for submerged installations in water tanks, offshore structures and other similar applications.T
