Assistant Controller

Job Summary:  Farwest Corrosion Control Company operates nine offices in North America.  The Accounting Department located at the headquarters in Downey, CA is the central financial operation for the company.  The accounting department is a team of ten team members overseen by the Controller. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will primarily be responsible for completing administrative, organizational, and analytical tasks to monitor the financial health of the business by supporting executive management and colleagues in assessing and improving the organization’s finances. 

Roles and Responsibilities: The Assistant Controller is expected to control systems and manage company financial records, and ensure processes are in legal compliance and in accordance with best accounting practices.  Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Oversight of accounting; Team building, accountability, assignment of responsibilities.
  • Payroll: Oversee payroll tax filings (multistate) which is processed by Payroll Manager.
  • Sale & use tax filings; Company is migrating to SOVOS, an outsourced solution:
  • Evaluate where we have multistate nexus.
  • Oversee sales tax filings which will be processed by SOVOS.

    Banking     
  • Account reconciliation
  • Cash management
  • Wire transfer & ACH maintenance
  • Insurance relationships & negotiation; Renewal reporting needs

    Financial reporting through SAGE
  • Coordinate annual financial review with CPA.
  • Oversee monthly P&L generation and close of month process.
  • Customer account approval (accounting staff handles most of this effort)

    Benefits management
  • 401K maintenance and filings Annual audit of 401K with CPA firm
  • 125K program maintenance
  • Contractor license maintenance
  • Preliminary lien releases for contractor customers (BICA)
  • City business licenses application & filings
  • Fixed assets process & auditing
  • SAGE software upgrades
  • Special projects as needed (SAGE, Audits, Tax & Nexus, 401K Changes, etc.)


Skills and Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent understanding of governmental guidelines, tax laws that affect the company.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail
  • Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with SAGE 100
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
CPA certification a plus
