Expert Tip # 18: Center-to-Center Dimension

The term used for measuring the distance between two circles, holes, or other round objects, is center-to-center. This is the dimension or distance from the center of one circle to the center of a second circle.

For example: If a customer wants multiple conduit openings at the bottom of an anode junction box, we need to know the center-to-center dimension of those openings to ensure the conduit holes are in the right position. In addition, we need to know the conduit size so we can provide the appropriate opening for the conduit.

The same methodology is used for other needs, such as the distance between two pulleys, gears, columns and more. As the diameter of circles can vary, center location is used as the constant when measuring between two or more circles.
