Farwest Teams in the Field

Farwest has been engaged in several long-term field projects.

Marine Shipping Terminal - AK

Farwest Corrosion Control was contracted to design CP anode sleds for a marine shipping terminal in Alaska. The objective was to mitigate corrosion on a submerged pipeline and steel pipes for the extreme environment in Alaska.

Farwest built thirteen 7-ton anode sleds for the project.

Watch our short video for more details on the anode frames, sleds, shipping to Alaska and installation. Also, Click here.

5G Technology RMU Replacement

Communications providers are retiring 3G services and devices. Not only does this affect cell phones and related devices for consumers, but it also affects older Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU) devices.

Farwest was called on by a large utility customer to find a cost-effective solution for over 1,500 units installed in the field with 3G technology. Working with RMU vendor, Elecsys, our team developed protocols and training for Farwest technicians to install new 5G modems.

A procurement schedule and web-based tracking system helped our team deliver on-time results before the 3G sunset.

Maintaining Copper-Copper Sulfate Reference Electrodes

Portable copper-copper reference electrodes require maintenance to maintain the integrity of readings taken when using the electrode.

Maintenance should be done periodically depending on how often the electrode is used or the conditions in which it is used. A good rule of thumb for rejuvenating an electrode is when the copper sulfate liquid inside the electrode becomes “milky” as the color should be a very bright blue.
