Ask the Farwest Expert
In response to customer and colleague needs, we initiated Ask the Farwest Expert last April. This is a free service to answer questions, provide perspective and sort through the complexities of developing the right solution to cathodic protection and corrosion control issues. To-date, we have received a wide range of questions from burying magnesium anodes and measuring voltage across shunts to conducting underwater potential surveys and cathodic protection for carbon steel tanks.

The New FarwestCorrosion.com

Farwest recently launched a new, improved website. The new website provides easier navigation throughout the site, more information on our products and services and easier access to resources and tools. Like many new websites, this is a work in progress. We will be adding articles, videos and additional navigation with each new release. In the meantime, if there is something that you think we should add or change, please let us know at: I[email protected].

Tip from Our Experts

Weight & Length of Magnesium Anode Affects
CP System Life & Performance

Magnesium Anode Current Output & Service Life
Key Facts:
  • Longer anodes produce more current than shorter anodes.
  • Doubling the diameter of the anode will increase the volume (weight) by a factor of 4; yet, will only increase the current output approximately 15%.
  • Greater anode weight (volume) increases the anode or system life.
  • Surface area of the anode is not as important as some people believe.
  • High potential anodes will always generate more current than a standard potential anode given the same resistance-to-earth.

Our experts have been answering questions for years. In response commonly asked questions, we have created Farwest Expert Tips. Each Expert Tip will review, explain and/or provide history of a CP issue, why it can occur and options or actions that can resolve or mitigate the problem.
